On the occasion of the Russia-Italy Cross-Year of Tourism, the Italian Embassy and the Italian Consulate in Russia have decided to facilitate the issuance of free visas for Russian citizens who will buy tickets for the Macerata Opera Festival, the main event of the bilateral year.
This initiative follows other shows and performances organised by the Sferisterio in Moscow and Saint Petersburg in 2013, sponsored by Giovanni Fabiani.

Together with the Macerata Opera Festival, Giovanni Fabiani, the head of a company from Fermo that set the benchmark for “Made in Italy” footwear fashion in the world, will be the protagonist of a wealth of joint promotion initiatives in Russia: from the forthcoming MITT (Moscow International Exhibition Travel & Tourism), the most important Russian Tourism Fair held from March 19 to 22 2014, to an exclusive event to be organised in Moscow for the launch of the fiftieth anniversary of the Sferisterio opera season. Sferisterio and Giovanni Fabiani are both present in the stand of the Marche Region.
As a result of recent business travels, made in collaboration with the Marche Region, the combination of fashion and opera has been identified as the key element drawing the attention of Russian tour operators. In order to create a luxury experience in the Marche Region, Sferisterio has chosen an exclusive company that currently is the most important Italian designer brand in the Russian footwear sector, due to its elegance and authenticity.

Giovanni Fabiani has decided to create a shopping tour through which 50 tourists are given opera tickets for free every day as a sign of gratitude towards Russians, who keep appreciating his creations year after year. For each of the 11 performances, a bus departing from Rimini will take the 50 lucky tourists to Giovanni Fabiani’s factory for an exclusive guided tour. They will then enjoy the opera in the beautiful setting of the Sferisterio in Macerata.
Toll-free reservation number: 800964400.
The facilitation in the issuance of visas should help bring more tourists to Italy. The documentation needed to issue the visas has been simplified, especially to the benefit of frequent travellers, as well as tour operators and accredited agencies with the General Consulate in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Conventions with tour operators are already available, as they can buy holiday packages designed by Macerata Opera Festival for a luxury experience in the Marche Region. Furthermore, as of next month hotel managers on the Adriatic coast, from Rimini to Pescara, will be able to sell tickets for all opera performances on the bill directly from the hotel reception.

For over a year, Sferisterio has gone through a process of internationalization, specifically aimed at Russian tourists. As a matter of fact, only few theatres in Italy have a website that is translated into Russian. Moreover, the city of Macerata has a tourist information centre where opera-goers can ask for assistance and information to Russian native speakers, thanks to an agreement with the association “Macerata By Marche”, led by Elena Prokopenko.
